People have been asking me what they’ll need to be prepared for when buying a home in Hawaii. I figured it would be a great time to share my step-by-step guide of the home buying process, from the very first thought of homeownership to finally signing the papers and closing on a home. Here’s my 22-step guide:

  1. Decide you want to buy a home.
  2. Contact a Realtor.
  3. Understand your financial situation.
  4. Know your market.
  5. Determine your preferred location.
  6. Decide your needs and wants in your chosen location.
  7. Narrow down your desired neighborhoods to two or three.
  8. Decide your needs and wants for your new home.
  9. Get officially approved.
  10. Research available listings.
  11. Set up showing appointments.
  12. Select the home you want to buy.
  13. Prepare a reasonable offer.
  14. Negotiate your offer.
  15. Get your offer accepted.
  16. Open an escrow account.
  17. Formally apply for your mortgage.
  18. Have the home appraised and inspected.
  19. Review important documents.
  20. Get approved for your loan.
  21. Do your final walkthrough.
  22. Complete the final recordation.

After all of these steps, you’ll close on and be able to move into your new home. If you have any questions or would like more information about any of the steps for buying a home, feel free to reach out to me. I look forward to hearing from you.
